  • The most important part of any move is preplanning. Make sure you contact a moving company as soon as you know you are relocating. Give everyone enough time to make a plan and implement the plan.
  • Who is going to disconnect and reconnect your servers and individual computers? If you don’t have an in house IT department, (or even if you do) you may need additional help. We have people that can do the whole job or assist your IT department.
  • Decide if artwork, mounted flat screens, refrigerators, white boards and bulletin boards are going to the new location. If they are, who is going to remove them and re-hang them. Pacific Storage Company has a team to not only remove and disconnect, but reconnect as well.
  • Printers and copy machines: check with the service company that handles the maintenance prior to the move. Some Service Agreements require that the Service Company moves the copiers or printers to maintain the service contact. At the very least the equipment will need to be serviced prior to and after the move.
  • Filing Cabinets: All lateral file cabinets must be emptied for the cabinets to be moved without damage. Vertical file cabinets might have to be emptied as well, depending on how full they are. File cabinets are not made to be moved with a lot of files in them. The weight will cause the frames to bend and that’s when the drawers don’t close properly.
  • Are you going to have to use an elevator at origin or destination during your move? If so, make sure you know who to call should the elevator break down during the move. A “down” elevator can add hours to the length of the move and hundreds of dollars to the cost of the relocation.
  • Schedule a couple of people from Pacific Storage Company to be on hand for a couple of hours the first day everyone it back to work at the new location. There is always a desk that needs to be moved from one side of the room to the next, or a bookcase that doesn’t work as well as you thought it would. Have people there to help you staff get things just the way they want them!
  • Schedule a “purge” day prior to the move. Pacific Storage Company can deliver gondolas for use for trash, recyclables, or donations. Why pay to move things you don’t need, use, or want. Have everyone clean out before the move. This can save hundreds of dollars on your overall move.
  • Do you store records on site? Consider storing records at a third party. Pacific Records Management will give you a quote—you will be surprised how economical this is.
